Dr Anil Ohri

Anil is a doctor with 35 years of healthcare and business management experience spanning a career as a medical officer and surgeon in the British Army and NHS. He graduated from Southampton medical school in 1989 winning five undergraduate prizes. He then served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the rank of Captain on operational tours in the Gulf War, Cyprus, Kenya and Nepal, before returning to the UK to work at the Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital in London and the Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot. He subsequently joined a surgical training rotation in Oxford and London and was awarded a surgical research scholarship from Yale University – he has published research papers in the areas of oncology and surgery. He left medicine to join the healthcare investment banking arm of Credit Suisse First Boston, before serving as Chief Executive of the European joint venture arm of MedCath Corporation – a multi-billion dollar cardiovascular services company with specialist heart hospitals and cardiology centres across the USA.

Anil holds an MBA from London Business School and founded Regent’s Park Healthcare in December 2002. He has developed a broad range of expertise that enables him to bridge the complex communities of finance and healthcare. He is particularly expert in the areas of strategic planning and disruptive innovation. He is regularly invited to lecture at international meetings and advises a number of charity organisations. He is a mentor on the highly successful London Business School (LBS) Entrepreneurship Summer School and a regular mentor at the annual LBS Healthtech Challenge – a business ideas competition helping start-ups to turn their healthcare ideas into reality. He is the recipient of a series of business awards including the inaugural 2010 Accomplished Entrepreneur Award from LBS. The 2011 Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement from his peer group, the Independent Healthcare Association.  He is the 2018 winner of Director of the Year Award by the Institute of Directors, London & South Region, for Innovation. He also won the Director of the Year Award by the Institute of Directors for the South West Region.  He won the 18th annual Asian Achievers Awards in the ‘Professional of the Year’ category – the UK’s leading gala event celebrating success amongst the Asian diaspora. He has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London as a Freeman in the Guild of Entrepreneurs. In 2022, Anil accepted an invitation to become an independent member of the Southampton Enterprise Board (SEB) of Southampton University. The SEB is a University committee reporting to the Vice Chancellor with core responsibility to oversee and champion the enterprise and innovation agenda.
